BC Place Centerplate team donates another 1,000 pounds of food

The Centerplate team at BC Place was able to make another donation of more than 1,000 pounds food today to Salvation Army Vancouver Harbour Light supporting our neighbours on the Downtown Eastside.

Since the postponement of major events at the stadium in March 2020, BC Place and Centerplate have donated nearly 20,000 pounds of food to charitable organizations benefiting some of the province's most vulnerable communities.

We want to thank our incredible team members for their unwavering commitment to supporting our neighbours throughout the COVID-19 pandemic!

In British Columbia, the tourism industry is a key driver of economic success. Here is how the value of tourism breaks down, pre-pandemic, across the province:

• Tourism generated a direct contribution to B.C.'s gross domestic product of $8.7 billion in 2019.

• Tourism-related businesses employed nearly 150,000 British Columbians.

• Tourism industry paid wages and salaries topped more than $6.1 billion.

• There were nearly 20,000 tourism-related businesses in operation in 2019, an increase over the previous year.

Tourism makes significant contributions to our economy, and it enriches our lives. Tourism supports a greater diversity of amenities, such as museums and galleries, festival and sports events, transportation, dining and wine touring, parks and recreational facilities, and many other benefits that make life so good here in BC. When people stop travelling, the benefits of tourism stop, too. Most tourism businesses buy goods locally, hire locally, and retain their profits locally.

Northern Lights Display - June 2021

The stadium's Northern Lights Display is recognized around the world as a landmark of Vancouver’s skyline. BC Place is honoured to be able to help bring awareness to events, charities and non-profit causes that are important to communities in British Columbia.

Here are the stadium's lighting initiatives for June:

June 1st - Orange to honour the 215 children whose remains were discovered in a mass grave at the site of the former Kamloops Indian Residential School and to honour all others who lost their lives to the residential school system.

June 2nd - Red for Red Shirt Day and National AccessAbility Week

June 3rd - Purple for ALS Awareness Month

June 4th - Red for National Health and Fitness Week

June 5th - Blue and Green for World Environment Day

June 6th - Blue, Yellow and Red for Filipino Heritage Month

June 7th - Grey in advance of International Brain Tumour Awareness Day on June 8th

June 8th - Blue for World Oceans Day

June 9th - Blue for National Deafblind Awareness Month

June 10th - Blue and Orange for World Anxiety Day

June 11th - Blue for Brain Injury Awareness Month

June 12th - Teal for Tourette Syndrome Awareness Month

June 13th - Blue for Canadian Men's Health Month

June 14th - Red for World Blood Donor Day

In addition to these lighting initiatives, the stadium will continue to light up with a special animation at the top of each hour (between sunset and 11pm) every night to show support for health care professionals across the province who are working tirelessly to support our communities through the COVID-19 pandemic.
