BC Place joins the Pink Shirt Day movement

February 26th, 2020

BC Place team members were proud to take part in Pink Shirt Day on Wednesday, February 26th. Here is a photo of some of our administrative office staff wearing their best pink attire to support the initiative!

Bullying is a major problem in our schools, workplaces, homes, and online. Pink Shirt Day aims to raise awareness about these issues, as well as raise funds to support programs that foster children’s healthy self-esteem.

Since 2008, net proceeds of over $2.3 million have been distributed to support youth anti-bullying programs in British Columbia and throughout Western Canada. In 2019 alone, the Pink Shirt Day movement was able to support programs that impacted more than 59,000 youth and children.

February 20th, 2020

The Canada Soccer Hall of Fame has partnered with the BC Sports Hall of Fame to showcase Christine Sinclair’s record-breaking match-worn jersey before her return home to BC Place on Tuesday, April 14th.

The authentic match-worn jersey and other mementos from the game in which she set the world’s all-time international goalscoring record will be on display at the BC Sports Hall of Fame for eight weeks in the lead up Canada Soccer’s Women’s National Team home match in downtown Vancouver, British Columbia.

Canadian fans can see the Christine Sinclair exhibit at the BC Sports Hall of Fame inside BC Place Stadium, located at Gate A. The BC Sports Hall of Fame is open daily from Tuesday through Sunday (10am – 5pm) with more information at www.bcsportshall.com.

Sinclair recently reached the remarkable milestone of scoring her 185th international goal in an 11-0 win over St. Kitts & Nevis at the 2020 Concacaf Women’s Olympic Qualifying Championship. She first tied the all-time record with the winning 1-0 goal in the 7th minute (penalty kick) and then scored the world record-breaking goal in the 23rd minute for a 4-0 lead. On her second goal, it was a Jessie Fleming interception followed by an Adriana Leon assist that led to the Sinclair right-footed, record breaker in Edinburg, Texas on Wednesday, January 29th.

The Canada Soccer Hall of Fame, which recognizes the contributions of soccer to the athletic and cultural institution in Canada, celebrates achievements as well as preserves and commemorates the history of our game. After the match, the Canada Soccer Hall of Fame secured Sinclair’s historic match-worn jersey as well as several mementos from the post-match, locker room team celebration:

  • Christine Sinclair authentic match-worn jersey (Canada red), signed on the back by Sinclair
  • Christine Sinclair player accreditation badge (Concacaf Women’s Olympic Qualifying)
  • Christine Sinclair pre-match worn warm-up jersey and locker room nameplate
  • Post-match team celebration red cape, tiara and empty sparkling wine bottle

Canada Soccer will celebrate Christine Sinclair’s world international goalscoring record on Tuesday, April 14th at the Women’s National Team home match against Australia at BC Place.
