VANCOUVER, BC - BC Place has been shortlisted as a finalist for the 2011 International Stadium Business Awards. The nominations have been announced and BC Place will be judged in the Sponsorship & Sales category for its Budweiser sponsorship agreement announced last January.

The new partnership creates a unique four-way agreement with Labatt Breweries of Canada and its Budweiser brand, BC Place, and its two major tenants – the BC Lions Football Club and Vancouver Whitecaps FC.

The five-year agreement includes providing Budweiser with supply rights for BC Place. In addition, Budweiser will be the Official Beer of both Vancouver Whitecaps FC and the BC Lions, and will have access to team logos and branding, and exclusive rights to media and signage for both teams. The four partners will also coordinate their efforts in reaching out and connecting with sports fans across British Columbia, to provide the best-possible guest experience when BC Place reopens in September.

“A sponsorship arrangement with one company is not unusual, but it took a creative approach for
BC Place and our sponsorship sales agency Cossette to bring together the four partners for this agreement,” said Graham Ramsay, Director, Sales and Marketing for BC Place. “BC Place, Budweiser, the BC Lions, and Vancouver Whitecaps FC all share a common interest in enhancing the guest experience once we reopen this fall, and the fact that this agreement has been nominated for such an international award is recognition that we’re on the right track to do that.”

BC Place faces four other competitors in the Sales and Sponsorship category:

• Manchester City FC for fan marketing campaigns
• AEG for Farmers Field naming rights (LA Football Stadium)
• New Meadowlands Stadium, for ‘Cornerstone Sponsor’ model
• Haydock Park Racecourse, for Live Music Open-Air Concerts

As the only awards to recognize achievements in the global stadium industry, the Stadium Business Awards cover all aspects, from individual staff to venue of the year, from architecture to sustainability. Winners in 20 categories will be announced at the gala dinner during the Stadium Business Summit at FC Barcelona’s Camp Nou stadium on the 15th June.

Hundreds of nominations from around the world were narrowed down to a shortlist, to be judged by an independent panel of industry experts, including:

• Chris Overholt, COO, Canadian Olympic Committee, Canada
• Alexander V. Atamanenko, CEO, Donbass Arena, Ukraine
• Michael Bolingbroke, COO, Manchester United FC, UK
• Simon Clegg CBE, Chief Executive, Ipswich Town FC, UK
• NinnaEngberg, Managing Director, Stockholm Globe Arenas, Sweden
• David Manica, President, MANICA Architecture, USA
• Peter McKenna, Stadium Director, Croke Park, Ireland
• Patrik Meyer, Managing Director, Commerzbank Arena, Germany

“The awards are designed to acknowledge the leaders, achievers and innovators within our industry and this year’s nominations reflect the impressive array of developments in the stadium, arena and sports venue sector,” commented Ian Nuttall, founder of The Stadium Business awards. “This year sees several new categories join the lineup including recognition for work in local communities and success in sponsorship and sales.”
