The BC Sports Hall of Fame and Museum is taking its outstanding collection of artifacts representing the province's best athletes and teams throughout British Columbia while BC Place installs its new retractable roof.

The BC Sports Hall of Fame collection includes over 500 artifacts from the 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Games. Through an expansion of the BC Sports Hall of Fame's Hero In You® community outreach program, this unique collection will be accessible to sport associations, classrooms and community groups throughout British Columbia. The majority of the collection will be securely stored offsite, with assistance from the BC Pavilion Corporation (PavCo), the owner of BC Place.

The installation of the new roof at BC Place provides the Hall with a tremendous opportunity to showcase the stories of BC's incredible sporting accomplishments which span over 100 years- right up to the inspiring 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games. Kids will have an opportunity to hold a 2010 Olympic torch and families will have an opportunity to see the Pageantry of the Games, gifts from international sports federations to the Honourary Mayors of the Olympic Village plus much, much more.

"Over the last few months we have worked closely with PavCo to ensure our collection and the stories are accessible to educators, families and businesses alike. We are very appreciative of the efforts PavCo has made to assist us with this important priority," said Sue Griffin, President & CEO of the BC Sports Hall of Fame. "We are returning to our current home in BC Place in 2011 when BC Place will be a revitalized world class venue. We are looking forward to being a part of the renewed BC Place for years to come."

"We're pleased that we were able to assist the BC Sports Hall of Fame during this important transition period," added David Podmore, Chair of the BC Pavilion Corporation. "We understand the challenges that the roof installation has caused however the opportunities to take the stories and the collection into the community provide meaningful experiences for everyone. We're looking forward to having them move back in when the work is done next year. They've been working hard for decades to help all generations appreciate BC's rich sports history, and the new revitalized BC Place is the right place for that important work to continue."
