Roger waters’ “The Wall” confirmed as first concert at new BC Place
November 1st, 2011
Vancouver, BC: BC Place and Live Nation today announced that Roger Waters’ production of “The Wall” will be the first major concert event at the new BC Place, scheduled to perform the evening of Saturday, May 26th, 2012.
Tickets go on sale at 10:00AM, Monday, November 14th.
The BC Place concert is part of a planned North American tour, however, the Vancouver show will be the only stadium-sized concert in Western Canada. It will also be one of the first springtime concerts ever performed at BC Place – attributed to the improved climate control features of the new roof and upgrades throughout the venue.
“The Wall” will be performed in its entirety featuring a full band and state-of-the-art production, fronted by Roger Waters - the co-founder and principal songwriter of the archetypal progressive band Pink Floyd.
Waters has created a stadium-specific “The Wall” show for his latest tour, including a new 20,000 square foot wall, which is twice the size of the arena version. It stands 40 feet tall, and can be configured up to 500ft in width. At BC Place, “The Wall” will stretch from the concert floor into the seating bowl itself. Images projected onto “The Wall” will be generated by 41 state-of-the-art video projectors, compared to the 19 projectors used in the arena production.
“Only a few artists can really deliver a production and performance that is worthy of playing a stadium,” commented Paul Haagenson, President, Live Nation Canada. “Roger Waters’ production of The Wall is one of those shows. It truly transcends the concert experience – musically, conceptually, experientially, this is one show you will never forget as long as you live.”
There’s no better venue for this new and spectacular show than BC Place in terms of size alone, but improvements made as part of our recent revitalization will also make concerts at BC Place even more exciting than ever before,” said Graham Ramsay, Director of Sales and Marketing for BC Place. “We know guests are going to have an amazing experience when The Wall comes to BC Place next May.”
