Every year, the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation, BC/Yukon Region celebrates its support of breast cancer research, education and awareness programs, effective diagnosis and treatment in BC at the Annual Awareness Day Luncheon in Vancouver, one of the Foundation’s signature events.

Twenty years ago, founding volunteer members identified the immense need to educate the community and create further awareness about breast cancer and its effects on women and their families. Through their persistence and determination, the first Awareness Day event was born. Today, Awareness Day provides the Foundation the opportunity to highlight the past year’s achievements in breast cancer and breast health in order to create a future without breast cancer.

About the “Northern Lights Display” at BC Place
The stadium roof façade – known as the Northern Lights Display - utilizes 1700 ‘ETFE’ panels, stacked four rows high, and 6,800 linear feet of energy-efficient LED lights to create customizable lighting displays. ETFE is a semi-transparent material that allows sunlight into the stadium during the day, but it also contains metal dots called “frits” that reflect the LED light displays at night. Together with the new 38,000 square metre roof at BC Place roof, the Northern Lights Display enables a wide range of both static and dynamic programming, with a total of more than 26,000 addressable lighting elements.

BC Place has utilised the entire roof to promote events (orange for BC Lions, blue for Vancouver Whitecaps), seasonal and holiday displays (red and green at Christmas), and for community and charitable organizations, such as illuminating pink on ‘Pink Shirt’ day to create awareness for anti-bullying, red for AIDS awareness, purple for Epilepsy Awareness Day, and more.
