Vancouver, BC (May 30, 2012): The first major concert at the new BC Place has generated an estimated $9.8 million in economic activity within the province.

BC Place and Live Nation hosted more than 37,000 guests Saturday night for the muchanticipated presentation of Roger Waters’ THE WALL Live. The show is scheduled to visit several Canadian cities, however the event at BC Place was the only one in Western Canada featuring Waters’ new, larger stadium-sized version of the show, complete with its 20,000 sq.ft. wall. As a result, thousands of visitors came to Vancouver from outside of the province to see THE WALL Live at BC Place.

“We’re very pleased with how the new stadium performed during our first major concert event, in terms of sound quality, production logistics and the overall experience,” said Graham Ramsay, Director, Sales and Marketing, BC Place. “2011 Grey Cup in November, the CONCACAF Olympic Qualifying Tournament in January and the Roger Waters concert, are the kinds of events that generate significant economic benefit in the province, and by hosting these worldclass events, the newly-revitalized BC Place will continue to be an important economic driver and an icon for BC.”

“By all accounts this show was an unforgettable experience,” commented Paul Haagenson, President, Live Nation Canada. “There are only a few venues in Canada that can accommodate the sheer size of this production, so we’re excited that we were able to bring this spectacular concert to the new and improved BC Place.”

The new BC Place reopened in September 2011, and is expected to contribute more than $100 million in economic impact annually within BC – up from approximately $58 million per year prior to the revitalization.
