‘LIGHTS OF HOPE’ GLOW BRIGHT AT BC PLACE
Vancouver, BC: It may only be August, but BC Place will be glowing with hundreds of thousands of Christmas lights as the testing site for the annual St. Paul’s Hospital ‘Lights of Hope’.
The Lights of Hope - a spectacular display of holiday lights that illuminate the exterior of St. Paul’s Hospital - is part of a campaign inviting the community to give generously to the hospital’s greatest needs.
From August 18 to 22, volunteers from Stantec and BCIT will be setting up on the stadium’s level 2 concourse, working nine hours a day untangling, sorting, and testing the lights which measure about 10 kilometers in length.
With its colourful illuminations highlighting the downtown skyline nightly, BC Place is the perfect place for this lighting-based community project. “We are pleased to be able to support this important community initiative once again,” said Graham Ramsay, Director of Sales and Marketing, BC Place. “The St Paul’s Lights of Hope are a holiday season institution in Vancouver, and BC Place is excited to help activate this very worthwhile cause.”
The Lights of Hope campaign raises funds to support world-leading care, research, and teaching at St. Paul’s Hospital and the campaign hopes to exceed last year’s fundraising total of $2.4 million.
“We are excited that people look forward to the annual Lights of Hope as part of their holiday tradition, and we are grateful that it inspires people to participate in the fundraising campaign,”’ said Dick Vollet, President and CEO of St. Paul’s Hospital Foundation. “St. Paul’s Hospital is grateful to BC Place for offering their venue again this year and to Stantec for leading volunteer efforts.”
Doug Hamming, Senior Architect with Stantec is also appreciative that the campaign continues to be successful. “Working with St. Paul’s and BC Place again this year shows that our partnership goes well beyond the various design projects at the Hospital and the Stadium that Stantec has delivered over the years. I can honestly say that the Lights of Hope project virtually defines what our staff would seek out to connect back with their own community. We are grateful to be a part of it.”
The 17th edition of the Lights of Hope campaign will begin on November 27, 2014 at 6:30 pm during a special Community Celebration where the display will be lit for the first time. For more information about the St. Paul’s Lights of Hope campaign, visit www.lightsofhope.com.
