BC Place glows green and blue for World Tourism Day
September 27th, 2018
BC Place will glow green and blue on Thursday, September 27th, in recognition of World Tourism Day.
World Tourism Day, commemorated annually on September 27th, is a United Nations initiative to foster awareness among the international community of the importance of tourism and its social, cultural, political and economic value.
Tourism is a particularly important economic driver for British Columbia, generating more than $17 billion in revenues in 2016. The Government of British Columbia invests over $123 million in the sector each year. The industry is also one of the province's biggest employers, with more than 133,000 people working in tourism. In 2017, 5.7 million international visitors came to BC, a 3.3% increase over the previous year.
