PavCo seeking naming rights sponsor for BC Place Stadium
February 20th, 2019
The Government of British Columbia has given approval to the B.C. Pavilion Corporation (PavCo) to issue a request for proposals (RFP) to select a naming rights sponsor for BC Place Stadium.
The addition of a naming rights sponsor is an opportunity for PavCo to attract private investment to offset costs related to the facility’s operations. Funding could then be redirected to support other key government priorities.
“This naming rights sponsorship opportunity will make more funds available for government to improve the services that British Columbians count on,” said Lisa Beare, Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture. “We believe this is an excellent time to look for the right corporate partner for this important facility in B.C., and through that sponsorship, generate significant benefit for British Columbians.”
PavCo will explore this opportunity through an open and transparent RFP process to ensure the best possible outcome for British Columbians. PavCo will manage the process in consultation and with appropriate approvals from government. The process will incorporate, as applicable, the government’s Naming Privileges Policy.
“BC Place is a vibrant, world-class facility, and is one of only a few venues of this size and profile in North America yet to capitalize on this valuable type of revenue opportunity,” said Ian Aikenhead, PavCo chair.
As the largest multipurpose facility of its kind in Western Canada, BC Place provides a venue for sport, entertainment, commerce, cultural and community activity. More than one million people attend events at BC Place annually, including games of the stadium’s two resident teams, the BC Lions Football Club of the Canadian Football League and Vancouver Whitecaps FC of Major League Soccer.
BC Place hosts the annual Canada Sevens, which is part of the World Rugby Sevens Series, and is home to the BC Sports Hall of Fame and Museum. BC Place attracts a diverse range of world-class sport, live entertainment, cultural events, consumer shows and community gatherings year-round.
