BC Place is proud to welcome the world back to Vancouver for the 2019 HSBC Canada Sevens on Saturday, March 9th, and Sunday, March 10th.

In its fourth year in Vancouver, the HSBC Canada Sevens continues to raise the bar for international sporting events in Canada. BC Place is anticipating a crowd of more than 75,000 over the two-day tournament; with a total attendance of 77,096 in 2018, the tournament broke its own attendance record from the previous year!

Key Facts for the upcoming 2019 HSBC Canada Sevens

  • 16 national teams will compete in 45 matches over the 2-day event at BC Place.
  • The award-winning team from Centerplate at BC Place serves more than $3million worth of Food and Drinks over the two-day tournament.
  • COMMUNITY LEGACY: Players from the 16 competing nations spend five days in Vancouver prior to the tournament - participating in community activations and visiting schools, community centres or First Nations. Their actions help develop the sport of rugby while creating powerful legacies in our province. Events such as the HSBC Rookie Rugby jamboree engages approximately 400 boys and girls from B.C. in a fun and interactive skills clinic. The jamboree serves as a catalyst for a large-scale Rookie Rugby celebration, while introducing youth to the sport of rugby as part of Rugby Canada's investment in growing the sport in Canada. Furthermore, close to 100 B.C. kids also are given the opportunity to show off their skills and create lasting memories by competing in a mini-tournament during the HSBC Canada Sevens at BC Place.
  • BRITISH COLUMBIANS EMPLOYED: 1,800 B.C. workers will be employed in a diverse range of roles at the stadium, including Food and Beverage service, Hosting, Security, First Aid and Operations for both days of the event at BC Place.
  • ECONOMIC IMPACT IN B.C.: In its first three years, the HSBC Canada Sevens tournament has continually raised the bar for rugby in Canada, sparking greater awareness and growth while generating more than $24M in economic activity in B.C. on an annual basis. Before even one fan books a hotel room, the Tournament reserves more than 2,300 room nights for players, contractors and tournament staff.
  • GLOBAL DESTINATION: The 2018 event in Vancouver saw more than 5,000 tickets sold to international buyers and those living outside of BC. Since 2016, visitors have traveled to Vancouver from more than 18 countries, including England, Wales, Scotland and Ireland, Hungary, South Africa, Hong Kong, Japan, New Zealand, Australia and the United States.
  • WORLDWIDE AUDIENCE: A global audience for the 10 stops on the Series of 600,000 in venue spectators, 900 million in broadcast, and 5 million in digital broadcast for a total of 4,500 hours of coverage, reaching 149 countries and 390 Million homes world-wide
  • FOUR MORE YEARS: With just days remaining before the fourth and final year of its four-year hosting agreement with World Rugby, Rugby Canada has announced that Canada will again host one of 10 stops on the HSBC World Rugby Sevens Series from 2020 to 2023. The successful tender has been awarded to Rugby Canada after year-over-year growth and momentum, breaking records as the largest rugby event in Canada for three consecutive years.
