BC Place lights up red for National AccessAbility Week

June 2nd, 2021

BC Place will light up red in support of Red Shirt Day and National AccessAbility Week on Wednesday, June 2nd.

National AccessAbility Week (NAAW) celebrates the valuable contributions of Canadians with disabilities, the accomplishments of individuals, communities and workplaces to remove barriers to accessibility and inclusion, and the ongoing work we all have to do to counter discrimination against persons with disabilities and promote a culture of inclusion.

When barriers are removed, Canadians with disabilities are able to participate fully in society and workplaces. This helps our communities thrive and our economy prosper, so all Canadians benefit. The theme of NAAW 2021 is Disability Inclusion 2021: Leaving no one behind.

Acknowledged on June 2nd this year, Red Shirt Day is a day when people across Canada come together and wear red in schools, workplaces and spaces everywhere in order to create a visible display of solidarity: to show their support for persons and families who are living with disabilities, celebrate the achievements of people living with disabilities, and to pledge their commitment to help create a fully accessible and inclusive society that honours and values the contributions of people of all abilities in all aspects of life in Canada.
