February 26th, 2013

February 26, 2013

The Northern Lights roof lighting display at BC Place will be illuminated “pink” on Wednesday, February 27th in support of “Pink Shirt Day”, an anti-bullying campaign started six years ago by two High School students.

BC Place joins CKNW in urging everyone to wear something pink on February 27th to highlight the key message of Pink Shirt Day, that “Bullying Stops Here”. In the last three years – CKNW Pink Shirt Day has raised more than $280,000 – with net proceeds from activities & t-shirt sales benefiting the CKNW Orphans’ Fund in support of Boys & Girls Clubs Anti-Bullying programs. About the “Northern Lights” at BC Place
The stadium roof façade – known as the Northern Lights Display - uses 1700 ‘ETFE’ panels, stacked four rows high, and 6,800 linear feet of energy-efficient LED lights to create customizable lighting displays. BC Place has used the entire roof to promote specific events (orange for BC Lions, blue for Vancouver Whitecaps FC), create seasonal and holiday displays, and generate awareness for community and charitable organizations.
